Here is a nice piece of motion typography. Its not too gratuitous if you know what I mean. (There is a lot of it out there.) It the Head and Shoulders ad by Hamburg-based Sehsucht GMBH for Saatchi & Saatchi NY. Its a great concept, beautifully executed, clever.

yu+Co end titles for Enchanted

End titles seem to be replacing opening titles in terms of the opportunity for animated typographic sequences. Here is one example of the many that have emerged over the last year, yu+Co’s sequence for Enchanted. It also encompasses the ‘growth theme’ animation style that seemed to crop up everywhere last year (no pun intended!). Its an interesting development in film graphics that the titles sequences are now becoming little epilogues to the main narrative, almost like a ‘come down’ for audience after the adrenalin rush of two hours of thrilling cinema. I wonder how many people stay to watch them. Another one to file under film titles.

Motion typography everywhere

Here is yet another example of motion typography – this one is an animated typographic music video to Are You Gonna Be My Girl? There are growing collections of motion typography sequences available on the web, Yuxt is one example. Also check out another typo music video for Cuarteto de Nos which is remarkably like the piece by Jarratt Moody!

Its still hard to find any decent critical commentary about this type of work. But, sometimes its also good to just look at stuff.

Flickermood music video

Flickermood contains every imaginable animated contortion of type synched to music by Forss (Sonar Kollectiv). The piece is designed by German motion graphics designer, Sebastien Lange.

Also check out this video for City Ports on Forss’ Soulhack album by Gary Butcher, it’s a beautifully abstract piece reminiscent of early avante garde animated films.
